I AM back in NZ, but im gonna finish off these fotos from japan golf first otherwise theyll get lost amongst the pile of other fotos ive always planned to show on here and never got round to
THis is the Queen course, and my particular favourite. It was probably the coldest, with a headwind almost all the way round, but great fun, good views of the mountains, and nicely placed strategic lakes etc.

splendid shots, mark. happy new year to you, too. Thu 12-Jan-2006 20:17

Golf courses of Japan II - Hakusan Village - Prince Course

This resort in Mie prefecture has 4 different "courses" each 9 holes in length. So if you can stay overnight like we did you can get to play all four. This is the first course, the "Prince" course. It was cold, very cold, and there was some snow around. The building in foto 2 is the clubhouse, and the one in # 3 is a large "onsen" or hot spring baths which are great after a cold day on the course. Of course cos they are 9 holes you get to punctuate the round with a lunch break. We were gonna stay in one of the lodges you can see in # 6, but decided it might be too cold, and opted for a large beef dinner and a room in the hotel on the 9th hole as seen in # 9.

Got back from Japan this morning and hopefully will be able to post and visit more frequently.

Happy New Year, Mark! Isn't that terrible cold playing golf in winter? But the landscape is beautiful. Mon 9-Jan-2006 17:09

A little bit of snow doesnt stop you enjoying a game of golf
you just have to wear a few extra layers of clothes to keep out the cold, oh and yeah, a coloured ball helps. Golf in Japan is different to in NZ, its more of a luxury sport here whereas over there its accessible to everyone. Here its expensive, but you get a cart included that drives itself around the course. And you stop at 9 holes to have an 50 minute break for lunch before going out again. But the best thing, especially in winter, is the hot baths that are waiting in the changing rooms when you get back.

Excellent shots Mon 9-Jan-2006 17:39

Golf in the snow... with coloured balls... I think I'd rather sit inside with hot chocolate and just watch the snow Sounds like you've had fun though! Mon 16-Jan-2006 07:46

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Hi guys. just jumped in to wish everyone a merry christmas. Bit of a shock coming from southern hemisphere summer back to a COLD Japan, but great to meet up with old friends.

Anyway, regardless of whether you celebrate Christmas or not, I wish you all the best for the season and the New Year.

Jump in again when i can

Funny, most people go to warmer climates during Christmas did you get tired of the sunny beaches in NZ? Wed 28-Dec-2005 08:48

Golf courses of New Zealand III - Gulf Harbour

View all 15 photos...
This is the 3rd in the series, and without doubt the pick of the crop. The Gulf Harbour Country Club course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr, arguably the worlds finest designer of classic golf courses. It is set against the spectacular backdrop of the Hauraki Gulf. Chosen to host the World Cup of Golf in 1998 and regular venue for the NZ open, its hallowed turf has been walked by many a professional golfer
Quote:
This 6,400 metre, par 72 golf course is located at Gulf Harbour on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, just north of Auckland. Four sets of tees assure playability for every calibre of golfer, from beginners to professionals. Like all great courses, Gulf Harbour tantalises players with a variety of exciting holes. The four finishing holes will increase the heartbeat of every golfer. The 160 metre 15th is a par 3 toward the ocean, with the water as a backdrop. The 405metre 16th is a classic par 4 bordering cliffs. The second shot flirts with the rock cliffs and requires nerve as well as talent. The par 5 17th stretches 505 metres along the ocean, and the gorgeous views can be distracting to the eye. The final hole is a 390 metre par 4 which turns inland toward the clubhouse.

The 16th is frightening ok, with a huge carry over the ocean just go get to the fairway.

But I made a stunning par 4 there

mann .......... that hole #16 looks like an index 1 hole. you must have improved so much that you can get a par there. turning pro are you? Mon 5-Dec-2005 15:30

Golf courses of New Zealand II - Muriwai

View all 9 photos...
remember the beach where i went with the car? and riding on the horse? well that was a place called Muriwai Beach out on the west coast. There also just happens to be a pretty amazing golf course there. Anyone coming to NZ and looking to play golf in the Auckland region should definitely go here. Holes looking out over the Tasman Sea, are just awesome.

There are quite a number of golf course here, but I have not really gotten around to photographing them...after looking at these photos, I think I might just try it out... Sun 4-Dec-2005 19:18

Golf courses of New Zealand I - Pakuranga

View all 6 photos...
had some vacation time this week, and as im going back to the northern hemisphere winter next week i thought id take advantage of the approaching summer sunshine here and get in a few holes of golf. played some great courses this week, theres 23 in total around the auckland region. todays shots are from a place called Pakuranga, the club im thinking to join. but theres some better ones to come in the next couple of days from some pretty awesome courses.

enjoy your weekend.

I've always thought the only good thing about golf is the beauty of the courses
You have a good weekend too

If youre lucky....

View all 6 photos...
whilst looking at the glimmering sun on the ocean, just occasionally a bird, a seagull or maybe if youre real lucky a gannet, will fly across your field of view, and if youre REAL lucky youll have the camera on ready to take a foto of something else, and then, if the gods are REALLY smiling on you the zoom will be set just at the right length so that the bird isnt too small yet doesnt fill the whole image and then if you are REALLY REALLY fortunate you will click the shutter and capture some part, maybe all, of that little birdy, and he wont know or care a toot about it all.

Lucky guy, it's so frustrating to get good shots of birds while they're flying. Sat 3-Dec-2005 05:15
