Mermaid

this statue stands on the beach in a town called Whakatane down in the Bay of Plenty. The girl was the daughter of a local Maori Chief.

why the daughter of Maori chief stood on top of the rock? any reason?

btw, really nice pic.i really like it

This is the extinct volcano that i showed you in the previous beach entry. Takes about an hour to climb to the top but is well worth it for the 360degree views around the bay of plenty.

beautiful!! the most, #3...love it!! Wed 8-Feb-2006 07:46

Beach of Plenty (not)

View all 6 photos...
i havent travelled to that many countries, but i find it difficult to imagine almost anywhere on earth where humans reside that you could find the quality of beaches that there are here in NZ. I dont just mean the beauty of the beach, i mean that coupled with the fact that THERE ARE NO PEOPLE on them. Do you know of anywhere where this kind of beach would be essentially yours, and yours alone? NZ is dotted with them, all along the coast.

If it was a tad warmer I'll be there in a heartbeat! But then again if there is a REALLY good surfspot that could be my own...then I might just come right now!! Mon 30-Jan-2006 12:13

Michigan, as you may know, is surrounded by The Great Lakes, and there are many beaches to be had alone if one wishes. In summer, but especially during a winter blizzard. Thu 2-Feb-2006 02:49

This is where we were heading when we passed through the gorge i showed you yesterday. This is an area called the Bay of Plenty down on the east side of the north island. A fantastic place with deserted beaches, wonderful views, nice walks etc. ill show you more over the coming days.

Great atmospheric-perspective in these shots!! Wed 25-Jan-2006 01:57

Its a delight driving in NZ, just coming across rivers and gorges like this one. This was on our way down to the Bay of Plenty last week. Dont remember what the name of it was but a great place to stop for a break, in the hot sunshine just listening to the water gurgle its way past you is quite refreshing.

nice captured! i do love it all!! Mon 23-Jan-2006 06:03
